Our Inspirations
Paul Smith has always been inspired by his English roots, particularly the national flower – the rose. As a child, Paul would often stop to admire the vibrant rose beds in public gardens near his home. He was fascinated by the variations of the queen of flowers.
Different rose types have their own unique charms – playful wild roses, voluptuous cabbage roses, refined Damask roses. For our perfume, we wanted to capture the fresh beauty of a dew-kissed English rose garden on a perfect summer morning.
In addition to rose, Paul Smith Rose features green tea as a surprising top note. The bright, delicate green tea beautifully enhances the soft rose, giving it a clean twist. This innovative pairing was groundbreaking when our fragrance first launched.

Our Production Process

Sourcing – The rose absolute at the heart of our perfume comes from rose farms in Turkey, France, and Morocco. These countries provide some of the finest quality rose absolute in the world. Our green tea extract is sourced from China.
Extractions – The natural materials are transformed into aromatic extracts using methods like distillation, expression, and enfleurage. These careful extraction processes allow us to capture the nuanced scents of each botanical.
Blending – Our talented perfumers then blend these extracts together with other complementary materials. It takes great skill and artistry to perfectly balance every note.
Aging – The fragrances are left to age for 4-6 weeks so the notes can marry and develop. This maturation step allows the richer notes like rose to fully bloom.
Quality Control – Before bottling, all batches are tested by perfumers to ensure consistency and excellence. We will never release a product unless it meets our standards.
Bottling – Once approved, the fragrances are carefully bottled by hand to protect the precious formulas. Each sleek bottle is checked for quality before packaging.
Shipment – The finished perfumes are then shipped off to our shops and consumers worldwide. Our priority is delivering our products in perfect condition.

Antoine Maisondieu – The accomplished French perfumer Antoine Maisondieu created the original Paul Smith Rose in 2007. With 40 years of experience, his perfume portfolio includes works for Abercrombie & Fitch, Versace, Victoria’s Secret, and more.
Olivier Cresp – For the 2015 reformulation of Paul Smith Rose, we collaborated with Olivier Cresp. The talented perfumer has crafted iconic scents like Angel by Thierry Mugler and Light Blue by Dolce & Gabbana.
Fanny Bal – Our latest perfume, Paul Smith Rose Eau Fraiche, was developed by Fanny Bal in 2021. She brought a more modern transparency to the classic rose.
Aurelien Guichard – Our newest 2023 rose scent, Paul Smith Rose Blush, was composed by Aurelien Guichard. His refined creation celebrates the velvety, sensual side of rose.
